Win For The U-16 Basketball Team

MaryThe Dunshaughlin U16 Girls Basketball team secured yet another win in an away match against Longford last Tuesday. This talented squad of young girls , coached by Ms Reidy and Ms Regan, is undefeated in the legaue so far.

Longford started the game strong, but it soon became clear that they were no match for Dunshaughlins fantastic offence. Kelly O'Dwyer picked up the first points of the game for Dunshaughlin. A strong first five of Rachel Huijsdens, Kelly O'Dwyer, Olivia Flanagan, Niamh Curtin and Eimear Traynor worked tirelessly in the first quarter, all managing to put their name on the scoresheet.

The second quarter saw some great defensive steals by Niamh Curtin and Martha Reidy. Their determination stopped Longford from scoring in this quarter. Huijsdens freethrows were on point, as was Traynors field shooting.

Hayley Reynolds led a strong defence in the third quarter, and managed to make a couple of clever steals. Traynor continued to shine in offence with her accurate shooting, as did Julie Ormsby in defence with some solid rebounding. Flanagan made a lovely layup, and Ava Fox worked hard to add her name to the scoresheet.

Longford made a comeback in the first few minutes of the final quater with some impressive baskets, but fiesty defence from Ellen Byrne and Lucy Kelly saw to it that this was short lived. A freethrow made by Ormsby and a lovely basket by Niamh Cowan saw Dunshaughlin win comfortably, 33 - 18.
Congratulations girls, keep up the hard work!

Basketball - Semi Final Report

Semi Final Match Report

Congratulations to the U19 boys basketball team who are through to the All-Ireland Final.

The team came through the semi-final last Friday in the Arena against DLS Waterford to book their place in the All-Ireland final. Dunshaughlin lead the whole way through the game with scores coming from 4 out of the 5 players that were on the court in the first quarter.

The 2nd quarter was a strong quarter for Dunshaughlin with 3 pointers coming from Rory Carroll and Ronan Smyth. William McCarthy dominated inside, drawing the fouls and being rewarded with free throws. Dunshaughlin lead 24-13 at half time.

The 3rd quarter was a poor quarter for the boys however. Concentrations seemed to lapse which lead to silly fouling and allowed DLS to start crawling back into the game. Dunshaughlin were still 6 points up heading into the last quarter but no one could have expected it to be such a nail biting last quarter. DLS worked really hard at both ends of the court and with 52 seconds to go the teams were now level. However Dunshaughlin dug deep and came out on top in the end winning by 3 points.

This team shows real dedication and commitment. They work really hard for each other out there on the court, never giving up and always believing in themselves and their talent. Their team spirit can be felt wherever they go and is infectious to those around them. They are now up against Chriost Ri, Cork in the finals. Best of luck.

Home and Away Star Visits DCC

JulieanneAndrew Morley a.k.a Spencer from ‘Home and Away’ paid a very special visit to the College on Friday to talk to TY students about his charity work for Future Projects, a campaign to end human trafficking.

His speech was inspiring and encouraging to all students to be self-confident, independent and above all to be kind to each other. He was a down to earth, honest and friendly guy who is a fantastic role model for our students. A massive thanks to Tara Scanlon (TY) for organising this hugely successful event.
