As part of science week, two teams from sixth year entered the regional finals of the Irish Science Teachers’ Association quiz on Thursday at NUI Maynooth. The regional finals were taking place in thirteen locations around the country, with winners from each region going on to the finals at Trinity College Dublin. There were around ninety students in attendance at the Maynooth quiz with a range of schools throughout Kildare and Meath represented.
There were eight rounds in total, with questions drawn from the Leaving Cert biology, chemistry and physics courses, as well as some general science questions. There were some refreshments provided for the students and spot prizes throughout the night. Our valiant teams performed very well but unfortunately did not manage to qualify for the national finals, as the standard was so high. However, one of the teams did manage to scoop spot prizes of some Newbridge silver Christmas tree decorations!
Well done to all involved and, remember, fifth years, we will be looking for more teams for next year’s quiz!
