We hope that all our Dunshaughlin Community College families are safe and healthy. This is an extremely difficult time and we are all beginning to realise the huge impact school, not just education, has in our lives. Education is hugely important but I think more than ever we are missing what the school building provides…safety, structure, welcome, relationships, care, connection, communication, and community.
Our teachers miss our students, each other and the personal interaction that is so fundamental to the classroom. I know from talking to students and parents that our students are missing school too…something I’m sure they were surprised to realise themselves. We miss the daily interactions that are so central to the school community and look forward to a time when we can see each other again.
While these times are uncertain, we want to maintain as much normality as possible. To that end, your son’s/daughter’s learning will be assessed in a variety of ways over the next 5 weeks. We intend to report on your son/daughter’s progress at the end of this term in the usual way i.e. an end of term report.
Every subject department has a plan for assessing your son/daughter’s work over the coming weeks. This information will be vital to assist you in supporting your son/daughter reach their targets and progress their learning as effectively as possible. I advise that you print the relevant pages and display it somewhere prominent in your home to help your son/daughter remain focussed for the reminder of term.
If your son/daughter misses a deadline for the key assignments for a genuine reason (illness, broadband issues, etc.) please contact the subject teacher who will endeavour to ensure every student has a fair chance to complete the work. Obviously extensions have to be within reason, but all teachers will take a measured and fair approach in assessing individual issues.
Where students do not engage with teachers and there is no communication from home, teachers will have to provide ‘No Grade’ and an explanatory comment on the Summer report.
If you have any questions or concerns about your son’s/daughter’s engagement or progress, please contact the subject teacher who will be delighted to advise and support you. A link to all teachers email addresses can be found here:
